The complex of buildings the great wall of China

More than 750 km of the great wall was recently discovered by archaeologists in Gansu and Shaanxi during the third one studies the history of this Grand building which began in April 2007 and will end at the end of December 2011.

“During the recent excavations we found 15 sections with a total length 26 km and three towers, built during the reign of the Han dynasty (206 BC — 24 ad),” says Liang Shilin, Director of the Museum in Jinta County, Gansu province.

In recent years in Shaanxi province by archaeologists also discovered another section of the great wall of China with a length of over 700 km, constructed during the Qin dynasty (221 — 206 years BC), Western Han dynasties (206 BC-220 ad) and sui (581-618 ad).

The complex of buildings the great wall of China, which was designed to protect against the Northern nomads, developed over one and a half millennia since the Qin and Han, and ending with the Ming dynasty (1386-1644 years). The wall is from 1987 under UNESCO protection.

The wall was to serve at the Northern line of the possible expansion of the Chinese themselves, it was to protect citizens “Middle Kingdom” from the transition to semi-nomadic way of life, from the confluence with the barbarians. the Wall was to clearly define the boundaries of Chinese civilization, to contribute to the consolidation of a unified Empire, just made up of a number of conquered kingdoms.

Interesting facts:

The length of the Wall is over 1000 kilometers. It seems that the wall goes beyond the horizon, into infinity. In addition, the wall is over 7 meters in height and slightly less in thickness to build it, it took labour more than a million peasants and soldiers for decades.

The wall has an interesting acoustic feature — if one side to whisper, with your ear pressed against the other side, it is clearly enough to hear. And this despite the heavy thickness!

To provide the political and administrative unity of his vast Empire, Qin Shi Huang introduced a single monetary system, a calendar, written language, a common system of weights and measures. He also ordered to destroy all fortresses, retaining only that part of their walls, which could be a continuation of the great wall.

Great wall, following the direction of mountain ranges, river valleys and gorges, “writhing like a dragon” is many thousands of kilometres.

Recently it was estimated that the construction Walls went 180 million cubic meters of earth and 60 million cubic meters of stone and brick. Any Egyptian Pharaoh, do not even dreamed of such a huge amount of work!

It is remarkable that Marco Polo, the first Europeans who visited China, about the great wall even mentions. This fact suggests that by the end of the thirteenth century the Wall became the Chinese only a useless relic from the past (but by this time the Wall had not yet collapsed).

If all materials used in the construction of the great wall during the reign of the Ming dynasty (cobblestones, bricks, clay, etc.), folded in a wall thickness of 1 m and height 5 m, its length is enough to encircle the equator globe news! And if so, what to do with all the materials used by the dynasties of Qin, Han and Ming, then this “wall” will encircle the Earth even more than a dozen times.

On aerospace images of the Earth taken from the moon’s surface, we can consider the Great wall of China. It is the only manmade structures you can see from this distance.

The last Imperial dynasty, the Qing reacted to Chang Li Cheng with complete disregard. During the three centuries of the management Board of the Ninh of the Great wall is almost collapsed under the effects of weather and time. Only a portion of it located near Beijing, well maintained.
